Jasper Man Arrested for Burglary, Drug Charges in Brookeland

BROOKELAND, TX — A 41-year-old Jasper man has been arrested following a burglary investigation in the Brookeland area on March 1, 2026.

According to the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office, Sergeant Spivey and Deputy Kaylor were dispatched to the 200 block of Longleaf Drive after receiving a report of a burglary in progress. A concerned neighbor called authorities stating a male was seen stealing items from a garage.

Deputies were advised the suspect had left the property on a golf cart and was headed toward Recreational Road 255.

Sergeant Spivey, traveling down County Road 225 — the only nearby backroad — located a suspect exiting a wooded trail and conducted a traffic stop on the golf cart. The driver was identified as Alexander Josef Thornton, 41, of Jasper.

Following an investigation, deputies determined Thornton allegedly broke into the garage and stole a golf cart, a leaf blower, and other miscellaneous items.

Authorities also reported that Thornton was found in possession of suspected Xanax and Valium pills.

Thornton was charged with:

  • Burglary of a Building (State Jail Felony)

  • Possession of a Controlled Substance – Penalty Group 3, less than 28 grams (Class A Misdemeanor)

All stolen items were recovered and returned to their rightful owner.

Sheriff Chuck Havard commended deputies for their quick response and investigative work.

“Sheriff Chuck Havard and his staff are committed to combating criminal activity in Jasper County. I want to thank our deputies for their fast response and a job well done,” Havard stated.

Thornton is considered innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
