Newton VFD Responds to Woods/Structure Fire Near Burkeville

Newton Volunteer Fire Department responded Monday afternoon to a mutual aid call assisting Burkeville VFD on a woods and structure fire along County Road 2107.
According to Newton VFD, crews were dispatched at 4:27 p.m. after a small trash pile reportedly ignited and spread to a nearby outbuilding located close to a wooded area.
Firefighters worked quickly to contain the blaze before it could extend further into the surrounding wood line. Officials said the fire was limited to the structure and brought under control through a combined effort between Newton and Burkeville volunteer fire departments.

Newton VFD responded with two trucks and four firefighters.
No injuries were reported.
Officials continue to remind residents to use extreme caution when burning debris, especially near wooded areas and structures.
