A Tuesday afternoon traffic stop in Center escalated into a multi-agency pursuit that spanned over 20 miles and ended with a crash on private property. Ricardo Reyes, a 21-year-old from Shelbyville, is now in the Shelby County Jail facing several felony charges following the incident.

The situation began around 2:00 PM on March 3, 2026, when a Center Police Department officer tried to pull over a white 2008 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. Instead of stopping, Reyes allegedly fled the scene, leading officers on a chase that headed south from Center toward Shelbyville along State Highway 87. During the pursuit, the truck briefly veered onto CR 2110 before returning to the main highway and continuing its southward flight.

The chase eventually moved onto CR 2156 and traveled to the very end of the roadway. According to law enforcement, the vehicle did not stop when the pavement ended. Instead, the driver plowed through an entrance gate to a private property and continued driving approximately 100 yards toward a house. The truck finally came to a rest after crashing through a residential fence.

Reyes then attempted to flee on foot, but officers from the Center Police Department, the Texas Department of Public Safety, and the Shelby County Sheriff’s Department quickly converged on the scene and took him into custody.

Reyes is currently facing a long list of charges, including a second-degree felony for possession of a controlled substance and third-degree felonies for evading arrest with a vehicle and tampering with evidence. He also faces misdemeanor charges for reckless driving and evading arrest on foot.
